Day 14: bought to you by excuse number 78 & 83: crap headphones and muggy weather

Today was going to be the one where I got to 5 miles. Honest!! After a morning of lazing about and putting off the inevitable by watching new episodes of Game of Thrones ( Tyrion is my fav character and he should be everyones!) I forced myself into my running gear.

I had forgotten that I left my proper headphones at work on Friday and am having to resort to using the really shit ones you get with your phone, so the microphone bit bangs against my shoulder and annoys the crap out of me. This instantly put me off doing anything other than a shortish run. My Garmin also ran out of battery so I would not have been able to properly chart my run, and we all know how important that it. I do realise I can use mapmyrun or something but I am lazy.

Once out running, the horrible clammy weather just added to my bad state of running-mind. I did my obligatory circuit of the park and that was it. I will try to get to my 5 mile target next week.

Tomorrow's blog will probably be brought to you by excuse no. 3 - late night and hangover. I have Torture Garden club night so the corset will be out! Unfortunately corsets and muggy weather don't mix but hey ho...

Stats!
distance: 3.4
Time: around 35 mins (not sure as my Garmin ran out of battery early on)

Day 13: Not feeling it...

All I wanted to do when I got home today was open a bottle of wine and curl up on the sofa. It was after 6pm after a looooong day at work and a trip to the supermarket. I had a lovely BIG pile of washing up to do because a certain someone had to convenient excuse of a power cut not to do any...

In amounst all this I managed a paltry 2.2miles of the park. To make me feel even better about the evening, I bumped into a friend who was out to do a 'couple of laps' of the park. This amounts to over 6 miles of running with some fairly steep hills. I felt a little deflated.

I have exactly 3 weeks until my first ever trail event - a half marathon round Coniston Lake. So far I've done no more than 4 miles. I am a little worried.

At least I'm not doing the Tough Mudder this year - and on that note - Good luck to everyone who is doing it this year. Next year I plan to drag a few friends out to get an awesome team together :)

So something for anyone going for TM this year - me at last obstacle - didn't get electrocuted here!!
Mud and electricity!!

Day 12: Hands off my technology!

An uneventful run. Just a routine plod around Holyrood Park. The knee is still a bit twingy but holding up.

I thought I would be writng about some new gadgetry as I recently got a new Galaxy S4 which came with a Gear. It looked like a GPS watch type thing so I was kind of excited. However, on further investigation it is a rather gimiky (though very sleek looking) accessory to your phone - you can answer calls with it. I reckon you'll look like a bit of a tit talking into your wrist. I did like the camera though. But sadly no running-related apps :( Even the boyfriend was looking at it with interest and kept asking if I have figured it out and asking to 'play' with it. If I let this happen I may never get to use it as he will have basically stolen it. Though now we've discovered its "limited abilities" (in my mind) I'm not sure its as desirable as before!

So I'm stuck with my Garmin forerunner. I'm not sure other people have difficulty with this finding satellites? As I think I have mentioned before it can take over a mile's worth of running to find them which is increasingly annoying. Thinking it is time for a new one but not sure what better options out there. I have also always found the design slightly uncomfortable to wear? Any recommendations would be appreciated. I don't like using my phone with running app too much as always scared of dropping it and only use it as an emergency back up.

Day 11: Run with a beer break

It was a good run for a few reasons today. Firstly, my blisters are pretty much healed so I am not walking like an injured penguin. One of my thighs is still quite DOMS-sore but all in all recovery is going very well. This meant that I managed my longest run for a while - just over 4miles. This was however, made a little easier by the fact that I stopped off half way through to say hello to some friends who were sitting on the meadows enjoying the sun (the meadows being a good park space in central-ish Edinburgh where many students, hippy types, exercising types, lets-go-out-for-a-BBQ-types and many other 'types' go to enjoy what little summer we tend to get around here).

These friends were also enjoying a beer or two, and it would have been rude not to sit and join in.So I had a nice mid-run beer :) Could get used to that kind of refreshment on a run. But I would imagine that a little too much could make the run home a little harder.

So I am sensible and go home to do some dreaded housework and make some soup (lentil, chorizo and tomato in case you wondered.)

Finding it hard to fit all the Juneathoning in with other life-stuff but getting used to a few less hours sleep and achy limbs is all part of the fun...

day 10: I'd rather do the washing up...

Today my boyfriend Ian implied that I was using my Juneathon commitments to shurk helping out doing the washing up -which I totally wasn't by the way! Usually I would prefer to do exercise than any kind of housework, as anyone who knows me will testify :) But today I would have loved to stay and clean the kitchen than experience the less than 2 mile run my still very sore legs and blistered toes managed to muster this evening.

So not much to report on the run, except for the strange man jogging in a deerstalker hat...his head must have been very warm!

Day 9: I hurt!! and other excuses...

It's a classic, and I'm using it...due to my, yes I am going to use the term, 'heroic,' efforts over the weekend I come to Monday with extreme DOMS making my thighs hurt like nobody's business and pinky-toe blisters that are making me walk like John Wayne (or so I am told, I was never a fan).

Yes, today my efforts were minimal due to the above 'excuses'. I did however, do my physio leg exercises, some sit ups, around 10 press ups, and a very fast counted 20 seconds of a plank.

On other news, which I'm sure everyone has seen - Rik Mayall died today. I was saddened by this. I enjoyed the comedy he did. What I never understand though is all the sycophantic press following a untimely death of someone like this. Yes, he was a talented and funny man but I wouldn't have said he was the best comedian #of his generation', which is what some comments are basically saying. And don't they all when someone died sadly before their time. Some Bottom episodes were a bit shit (pun totally indented) if you ask me. Anyway. Just wanted to get that off my chest. Incidentally my fav Rik Mayall appearances are as Lord Flashheart in Blackadder -  "WOOOOF".

distance: none - I slacked off if you hadn't noticed

Day 8: Color Me RAD!

I am broken...properly broken. My legs no longer work and my feet are knots of soreness. After the horrors of yesterday's downhill walk in the rain, I awoke at 5:30am to return to Edinburgh to do a 5km fun run which involved getting powdered corn starch in a variety of colours thrown at you on the way round. It was brilliant. The event was slightly spoilt by the process of leaving the venue. I had to bring a car due to having to come down from he hills. It took over an hour to leave the car park! As a reward, I went out to the Meadows Festival - a community run festival with stalls and bands playing. We had a wee barbeque and some beer and wine in the sunshine. It went a little way to ease the pain of my sore muscles and multiple blisters.

Stat!
distance: 3.1 miles
time: not sure but somewhere around the 35 minute mark
time it will take to get all the colour off me: days!

I stayed this messy all day :)
